July 2020 bible readings

Listen now

Here are the July 2020 Bible readings. You may have heard the news that we’ll be able to physically worship together in the UK in some way or another from early July. What that will look like exactly, we don’t know yet. But, in the meantime, please take the opportunity to take a look at the readings and to reflect on what they might be saying to you.

The readings

In the July 2020 Bible readings we have donkeys, eating and drinking, rain, snow, seeds being sown, weeds, yeast, pearls and fishing nets…

  • July 5th. 4th after Trinity. Zechariah 9:9-12; Romans 7:15-25a; Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30;
  • July 12th. 5th after Trinity. Isaiah 55:10-13; Romans 8:1-11; Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23;
  • July 19th. 6th after Trinity. Isaiah 44:6-8; Romans 8:12-25; Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43;
  • July 26th. 7th after Trinity. 1 Kings 3:5-12; Romans 8:26-39; Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52

If you don’t have access to a Bible then please follow this link to the Vanderbilt Divinity Library. There may be the odd reading that doesn’t match but normally we’re pretty close!

Isaiah 55:10-13

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall be to the LORD for a memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off
