Bible readings for September 2024

bible reading

Here are the Bible readings for September 2024 which we’ll be using in our churches. We’re still in the long season after Trinity. This month we stick with Mark for the Gospel readings and with James for the New Testament, along with a selection of books from the Old Testament. Please make use of these passages and reflect on what they might be saying to you.

The readings

In James we have the importance of doing and not just listening. Mark includes run-ins with the local authorities and clarifications of Jesus’ ministry, mission and identity. Our Old Testament readings include messages of hope when circumstances were pretty grim.

If you don’t have access to a Bible, then please follow this link to the Vanderbilt Divinity Library. It’s not always the same but it’s usually pretty close. Vanderbilt have updated their site and it’s well worth a look.

The Bible readings for September 2024 include this from Isaiah 35…

The return of the redeemed

Say to those who are of a fearful heart,
    ‘Be strong, do not fear!
Here is your God.
    He will come with vengeance,
with terrible recompense.
    He will come and save you.’

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
    and the ears of the deaf unstopped;
then the lame shall leap like a deer,
    and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy.
For waters shall break forth in the wilderness,
    and streams in the desert;
the burning sand shall become a pool,
    and the thirsty ground springs of water
