For the beauty of the Earth

For the beauty of the Earth

Our next Sunday evening worship service is 7pm on September 25th, 2022. We’re in Creation Season and we’re calling the service: ‘For the beauty of the Earth’ which is taken from this well known hymn:

1 For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies.

Refrain:
Christ, our Lord, to you we raise
this, our hymn of grateful praise.

2 For the wonder of each hour
of the day and of the night,
hill and vale and tree and flower,
sun and moon and stars of light, [Refrain ]

3 For the joy of human love,
brother, sister, parent, child,
friends on earth, and friends above,
for all gentle thoughts and mild, [Refrain]

4 For yourself, best gift divine,
to the world so freely given,
agent of God’s grand design:
peace on earth and joy in heaven. [Refrain]

Psalter Hymnal, 1987

The hymn was written by an Englishman who rejoiced in the name of Folliott Sandford Pierpoint.

The service will be led by Nigel Silvester and we will be meeting this time in the Barritt Room at St John with St Mark’s, Bury. As usual, we will also be Zooming for those who can’t make it in person. So, if you would like to give it a go, or want to know more, then please use our CONTACT page to get in touch.

What is Sunday@Seven?

Sunday@Seven is an opportunity to worship together informally on the last Sunday of each month. There are modern songs and ancient hymns, prayers and reflections. If time allows, there is space for discussion too. It’s normally led by Nigel Silvester, our Authorised Lay Minister, ably supported by Cath Hilton

If the venue needs to change for ‘For the beauty of the Earth’ then we will update this post as appropriate.
