All Saints’ Elton Amateur Operatic Society (AOS) are putting on a production of Mike Leigh’s ‘Abigail’s Party’. Performances will be from Thursday 2nd September till Saturday 4th September 2021.
‘Abigail’s Party’ is a play for stage and television, devised and directed in 1977 by Mike Leigh. It’s described by All Saints’ AOS as: “a suburban situation comedy of manners – and a satire on the aspirations and tastes of the new middle class that emerged in Britain in the 1970’s”. In an interview with The Guardian, Leigh himself said: “the play came from my intuitive sense of the spirit and the flavour of the times, and from a growing personal fear of, and frustration with, the suburban existence.”
