How will we be the ongoing visible presence of God, here, in this time and in this place? How do wE become both guest and host?

God calls us all, he equips us all. If, like the boy who brought the loaves and fishes we all brought the little that we had – our gifts, our abilities, our love and, yes, our fabulousness too – then there would be more than enough to share around. No-one would need to hunger. All would be fed and with plenty to spare…. ‘I am the gluten-free bread of life.’

The Bible readings for April 2024 include passages about Jesus, both before and after the resurrection, plus the early life of the church.

“Have you believed because you have seen me?” Jesus says to our twin brother, Tom. With the eyes of his heart, Tom saw the God become man.

God sustained us in the past and will take us through the present and into the future too. But, but, he may do it in a completely new way.

Jesus first miracle was performed at the wedding at Cana. And, on the face of it, it’s an odd choice. So, what we are to learn from this? 

No stars or shepherds, no angels, no baby in a manger; but it is the Christmas Story, and it brings enough blessings to last a lifetime.

One of my favourite films is Whistle Down the Wind. A group of children led by Kathy find a man in a barn and believe that he is Jesus.

Are we living a REAL life? The abundant life Jesus not only made possible for us but desperately wants us to have? Are we? Are you? Am I? 

I wonder if we’d been listening to Jesus would we have recognised him as only Mary and Joseph’s boy or would we have seen something more?

I’m going to try and keep you awake. If I say: ‘bread from heaven’ you reply: ‘feed me now and evermore’. You get bonus point for singing.

How different would things have been if the church had taken the towel and the bowl from the foot washing as its sign rather than the cross?

There’s a theme today of listening for the shepherd’s voice… the nearest most of us get are woolly jumpers, shepherd’s pie and Countryfile.
