Bible readings for September 2026

Here are the Bible readings for September 2026 that we’ll be using in our two churches as we continue through the season of Trinity. You’ll see that there’s a progression from Truth to Forgiveness to Grace to Change. Or, if you like:

• Naming what is difficult.
• Refusing revenge.
• Learning to receive God’s generosity.
• Discovering that we can begin again.

For the Festival of Creation on 6th September, the readings are: Isaiah 55:12-end; Psalm 96; Colossians 1:15-20 and either John 1:1-14 or Matthew 8:23-27.

• 6 Sept – Trinity 14: Ezekiel 33:7–11; Psalm 119:33–40; Romans 13:8–end; Matt 18:15–20
  Truth, responsibility and reconciliation. Faithfulness sometimes means speaking difficult truth, addressing conflict honestly, and allowing love to guide the way we deal with one another.
• 13 Sept – Trinity 15: Genesis 50:15–21; Psalm 103:1–13; Romans 14:1–12; Matt 18:21–35
  Forgiveness and mercy. Joseph refuses revenge; Jesus challenges us to forgive generously; Paul warns against judging others when we ourselves live by God’s mercy.
• 20 Sept – Trinity 16: Jonah 3:10–4:11; Psalm 145:1–8; Philippians 1:21–end; Matt 20:1–16
  The unsettling generosity of God. Jonah struggles because God shows mercy to people he thinks deserve judgement; Jesus’ vineyard workers challenge our ideas of fairness and entitlement. God’s grace is generous precisely where we might prefer it to be deserved.
• 27 Sept – Trinity 17: Ezekiel 18:1–4, 25–end; Psalm 25:1–8; Philippians 2:1–13; Matt 21:23–32
  The possibility of change. The past does not have to determine the future. God invites repentance and new beginnings, while Jesus and Paul point towards humility, obedience and lives whose actions match their words.

Prayer for guidance and deliverance

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in you I trust;
    do not let me be put to shame;
    do not let my enemies exult over me.
Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame;
    let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
    teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
    for you are the God of my salvation;
    for you I wait all day long.

Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love,
    for they have been from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
    according to your steadfast love remember me,
    for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!

Good and upright is the Lord;
    therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
