Imagine for a moment that the Transfiguration had been filmed. Same mountain. Same dazzling moment. Same three stunned disciples shielding their eyes. But now imagine that the footage had been handed to three different film editors – each with their own instincts, priorities and sense of what really matters…

He dazzles in his white T-shirt with two mortals who are now residents of heaven. And a voice from heaven says: “This is my Son, the Beloved”

Jesus no longer dazzles. He’s back in his dusty robes when we meet the second beloved son. One at the top of the mountain. One at the bottom.

Here we are at the Transfiguration. The earthly Jesus, the Chosen One, shares the company of two men who are now residents of heaven.

Jesus was bathed in light and there were two Old Testament figures: Moses and Elijah. The disciples were bewildered. How to respond?
