Here are the Bible readings for March 2024 which we’ll be using in our two churches. Please make use of these readings and reflect on what they might be saying to you. This month sees us through to the end of Lent, into Holy Week and Easter.

The readings

This month from the Old Testament we see God giving his rules for living, the mothering of three women to the one baby and God forgiving us. In the Gospel readings we have Jesus cleaning house at the Temple, two perspectives on motherhood from the beginning and end of Jesus’ life, God speaking from heaven, Jesus being greeted by the crowds and then, of course, the empty tomb on Easter Sunday.

  • March 3 – 3rd Sunday of Lent: Exodus 20:1-17; 1 Corinthians 1:18-25; John 2:13-22;
  • March 10 – Mothering Sunday: Exodus 2:1-10 or 1 Samuel 1:20-end; 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 or Colossians 3:12-17; Luke 2:33-35 or John 19:25b-27;
  • March 17 – Passion Sunday: Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 5:5-10; John 12:20-33;
  • March 24 – Palm Sunday: Isaiah 50:4-9a; Philippians 2:5-11; Mark 14:1-15:47;
  • March 31 – Easter Day: Acts 10:34-43; 1 Corinthians 15:1-11; Mark 16:1-8 or John 20:1-18;

If you don’t have access to a Bible, then please follow this link to the Vanderbilt Divinity Library. It’s not always the same but it’s normally close.

The Bible readings for March 2024 also include these words from Mark 16…

The resurrection of Jesus

When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, ‘Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?’

When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, ‘Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.’

So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
