Come as strangers, stay as friends

Listen now

Eagles Wing are a mutual support group for asylum seekers and local people in Bury, Lancashire. Their aim is to befriend newcomers to our town. Old friends can make sure that no one is lonely and isolated when they arrive here.

They have members from all over the world, speaking many different languages. But a warm welcome is guaranteed to all who join them.

Drop-ins

Eagles Wing do this via ‘drop-ins’ and support groups operated by volunteers throughout the week in a number of locations in the town.

There’s lots going on! So, please take a look below at the details of their upcoming events. There’s also a great summary of who Eagles Wing are and what’s important to them:

Solidarity Socials

At St John and St Mark’s we’re very pleased to provide a home for the Solidarity Social Parties. These normally meet on the second Saturday of the month, with one or two breaks during the year.

Stay as friends

A recent Saturday Social was visited by the current Miss Manchester, Fatime Gashi. Fatime was herself a refugee from Kosovo and has kept in touch with the organising team.

If you’d like to come along to the Solidarity Socials or get involved in the work of Eagles Wing then you’d be very welcome! Please contact Sue Arnall: sue.k.arnall@gmail.com

Come as strangers, stay as friends. Indeed.

  1. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of George Abendstern who recently passed away. George helped at the monthly socials, always one of the first to arrive and last to leave. George had a life well lived and his obituary can be seen online in The Guardian and Morning Star.
