Come to the waters

Come to the waters

Listen now

Our next Sunday@Seven service will be on July 26th 2020. Our theme this time will be ‘Come to the waters’. Water plays a big part in the Bible – there’s often too much of it or too little of it!

We’ll almost certainly be Zooming again unless the Government changes its mind about singing in public. You’re very welcome to muddle along with us. Please let us know via the Contact page and we will forward details closer to the day.

What is Sunday@Seven?

Sunday@Seven is an opportunity to informally worship together on the last Sunday of each month – and yes, it’s at 7 pm. There’s a mix of songs, prayers and reflections. We usually have an ‘open mic’ slot for people to share whatever is on their mind, though that’s harder to do with the Zoom time limit. It’s led by Nigel Silvester, one of our Authorised Lay Ministers, ably supported by Cath Hilton.

For a preview of what Nigel will be saying, please follow this link.

Normally, of course, we would physically be together for this – but, since things are still uncertain, we’ll (probably) be doing it virtually. So, if you want cake and a brew, you’ll have to provide your own!

‘Come to the waters’ is taken from Isaiah 55:1. Here are some different translations to be thinking about…

Come to the waters

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.”

New International Version

“Hey there! All who are thirsty, come to the water! Are you penniless? Come anyway—buy and eat! Come, buy your drinks, buy wine and milk. Buy without money—everything’s free! Why do you spend your money on junk food, your hard-earned cash on cotton candy? Listen to me, listen well: Eat only the best, fill yourself with only the finest. Pay attention, come close now, listen carefully to my life-giving, life-nourishing words. I’m making a lasting covenant commitment with you, the same that I made with David: sure, solid, enduring love. I set him up as a witness to the nations, made him a prince and leader of the nations, And now I’m doing it to you: You’ll summon nations you’ve never heard of, and nations who’ve never heard of you will come running to you because of me, your God, because The Holy of Israel has honored you.”

The Message

Eternal One: If you are thirsty, come here; come, there’s water for all. Whoever is poor and penniless can still come and buy the food I sell. There’s no cost—here, have some food, hearty and delicious, and beverages, pure and good
