June 2021 Bible Readings

Listen now

Here are the June 2021 Bible readings which we will be using in church. Many of us are back in our church buildings on a Sunday now. But whether you come along, live elsewhere or are still sheltering at home, please make use of these readings and reflect on what they might be saying to you.

The readings

June’s readings include God in a garden, Jesus and his family, whirlwinds, mustard seeds, rough seas – and one healing interrupted by another.

  • June 6th – 1st after Trinity: Genesis 3:8-15; 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1; Mark 3:20-35;
  • June 13th – 2nd after Trinity: Ezekiel 17:22-end; 2 Corinthians 5:6-17; Mark 4:26-34;
  • June 20th – 3rd after Trinity: Job 38:1-11; 2 Corinthians 6:1-13; Mark 4:35-end;
  • June 27th – 4th after Trinity: Lamentations 3:23-33; 2 Corinthians 8:7-end; Mark 5:21-end;

If you don’t have access to a Bible, then please follow this link to the Vanderbilt Divinity Library. It doesn’t always have the same readings but it’s a good place to start.

Amongst the June 2021 Bible readings is this wonderful passage from the Book of Job…

Job 38:1-11

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind:

“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
Gird up your loins like a man,
    I will question you, and you shall declare to me.

“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
    Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements – surely you know!
    Or who stretched the line upon it?
On what were its bases sunk,
    or who laid its cornerstone
when the morning stars sang together
    and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?

“Or who shut in the sea with doors
    when it burst out from the womb? –
when I made the clouds its garment,
    and thick darkness its swaddling band,
10 and prescribed bounds for it,
    and set bars and doors,
11 and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther,
    and here shall your proud waves be stopped’?
