The Eagles Wing – can you help?

The Eagles Wing – can you help?

Listen now

This is a message from Sue Arnall, Honorary Treasurer and Contact for The Eagles Wing. The Eagles Wing, have the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and are a mutual support group for asylum seekers and refugees. The message concerns those migrants who do not receive any support from the Home Office.

Migrant Destitution

Dear Friends – I am sorry to contact you with a begging letter. But after receiving a message from The Migrant Destitution Fund last month, we are urgently needing funding to continue our support for destitute asylum seeker friends who come to The Eagles wing support group each week for help.

The Migrant Destitution Fund (MDF) is a local Manchester group that has been giving our destitute friends £20 per week for many years.

Each month, I send in an application form for each of the seven members that they have supported and they reimburse Eagles Wing accordingly. The British Red Cross also helps in the same way and currently supports a further eight destitute members. But they will only pay them for 3 months and then we need to look for other donations if the person is still destitute. The Eagles Wing administers this fund too on behalf of the British Red Cross.

However, the MDF has now PAUSED the fund as they have run out of money.

I am able to pay our seven friends for March from our account but will then struggle to find this amount of money for April and beyond until, hopefully, the MDF re-opens.

Can you help?

We have created a separate account called ‘Friends of Solidarity’ and I wondered if you would be able to put out a request to your friends and Church members asking if they could take out an individual Standing Order, using the attached form – and help us with £10 a month donation (or more if possible)? That would be marvellous!

In these difficult times, we are getting many more requests from our Eagles Wing members for urgent financial support. We do what we can with small one-off donations. The real difficulty comes when we KNOW that a person has no form of income other than our destitution funding.  This is why the MDF has been such a lifesaver in the past.

With best wishes, Sue x
