What’s on in Advent & Christmas 2023

We’d love to see you at our Advent & Christmas services and events this year at St John with St Mark’s, Bury and Christ Church, Walmersley. So, here’s a list of what’s on in our churches and in our local community too…

During Advent:
  • Christmas Fair: Saturday 25th November 11am at St John’s Hall. Cakes, books, raffle, jigsaws, tombolas, lunches…
  • Christmas Tree festival: Saturday 2nd December at Christ Church, 10am – 2pm. Entry £2.
  • Christingle: Monday 4th December at both Christ Church and St John’s Hall. Both start at 6.30pm. Supporting the work of the Children’s Society.
  • Christmas in Clarence Park: Saturday 9th December from 3.30pm at the Green Cafe and Bandstand. Radcliffe Brass Band, Carol singing, Santa, Mince Pies…
  • Beer & Carols: on Friday 15th December from 7pm – with our friends at St James, Tower Street, Heywood. No tickets needed. Just come along.
  • Carol Singing: Saturday 16th December from 12 noon in Millgate Centre near T J Hughes, together with other churches in Bury and any passers-by.
  • Christmas Carols at Clarence: Saturday 16th December at the Bandstand from 5pm. Brass band, choir, mince pies, hot chocolate. Hosted by Audacious Church.
  • Church Carol Service : Tidings of comfort and joy on Sunday 17th December at 6.30pm in both churches. Readings and carols. Candles and choirs. 
  • Christmas Sing-a-long: at the Jubilee Centre on Wednesday 20th December 10.30am – 11.30am.
Christmas Eve:
  • 9.00am Book of Common Prayer communion at Christ Church.
  • 10.30am Sunday morning services at both Christ Church and St John with St Mark.
  • 7.30pm Christmas Eve Communion – St John with St Mark’s if you don’t want a late night.
  • 11.30pm ‘Midnight’ Mass – Christ Church, if you want to see in Christmas.
Christmas Day:
  • Christmas Day 10.00am: Holy Communion Service at both churches. Whilst the roast is in the oven, come along and remember what the day is really all about.
  • Christmas Day Dinner 1.00pm: In Bury Parish Church Hall, The Rock. Contact 07855 306 074 well in advance if you wish to come. If you, or someone you know, would enjoy some company on Christmas Day then please get in touch. There is no charge for the meal.
New Year’s Eve:
  • 9.00am: Book of Common Prayer Communion at Christ Church Walmersley
  • 10.30am: Joint service with both churches together at Christ Church Walmersley
Help this winter:
