Here are the April 2022 Bible readings which we’ll be using in church. Please make use of these readings and reflect on what they might be saying to you.
The readings
The readings in April include God reversing what he did in Exodus (instead of drying up a river, this time making rivers in the desert), Mary filling the house with perfume, Jesus slipping into Jerusalem via the back gate – and then of course the events leading up to the crucifixion, the resurrection and all that followed:
- April 3 – 5th of Lent: Isaiah 43:16-21; Philippians 3:4-14; John 12:1-8
- April 10 – Palm Sunday: Isaiah 50:4-9a; Philippians 2:5-11; Luke 19:28-40;
- April 17 – Easter Day: Acts 10:34-43; 1 Corinthians 15:19-26; Luke 24:1-12;
- April 24 – 2nd of Easter: Acts 5:27-32; Revelation 1:4-8; John 20:19-end;
If you don’t have access to a Bible, then please follow this link to the Vanderbilt Divinity Library. That will take you to the Lent readings. Then follow the links for Holy Week and Easter.
Amongst the April 2022 Bible readings is this wonderful passage from Paul to the church in Philippi. In Acts 16, we read how Paul established his first church in Europe, setting up a worship centre in the house of a trader called Lydia…
Philippians 2:5-11
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death– even death on a cross.
Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
