Here are the July 2025 Bible readings, which we’ll be using in both St John & St Mark and Christ Church as we head off into the long period of ‘Ordinary Time’. This is the time where the church focuses on living out the teachings of Jesus in our daily lives.
The readings
Our Gospel readings start with Jesus pairing up seventy people to go ahead and prepare places which he intended to visit. Which by my maths means he’d mapped out 35 different places to go to. Quite an itinerary when you think about it.
That’s followed by the story about the caring Samaritan, Jesus visiting a listening Mary & a distracted Martha – and then giving the disciples a model of how to pray.
In the Old Testament, we have God saying that he will comfort people as a mother nurses a child, Moses saying that the word of God is easy to follow since it’s in our hearts, Abraham and Sarah going over the top in their hospitality – and then Abraham shamelessly trying out some negotiating techniques.
In the New Testament, we finish off the Galatians mini-series before spending several weeks in Colossians. Here the author is guiding the newly formed church by telling them about Christ’s pre-eminent cosmic role – and explaining what the implications of that are.
- July 6th – Trinity 3: Isaiah 66:10-14; Galatians 6:7-16; Luke 10:1-11, 16-20;

If you don’t have access to a Bible, then please go to the Vanderbilt Divinity Library by following this link. It’s not always the same but it’s usually very close.
The July 2025 Bible readings also include this from Psalm 138…
Thanksgiving and Praise
I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
I bow down towards your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;
for you have exalted your name and your word
above everything.
On the day I called, you answered me,
you increased my strength of soul.All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord,
for they have heard the words of your mouth.
They shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
for great is the glory of the Lord.
For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly;
but the haughty he perceives from far away.Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;
you stretch out your hand,
and your right hand delivers me.
The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O Lord, endures for ever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands.
