We’re in the run-up to Easter and so much of our magazine has thoughts, prayers and reflections on that. In addition, we have updates from many of our groups and job adverts for someone to help with the BRAC Homework Club and Christians Against Poverty.

Our March 2024 magazine also has this letter from Ian…

Renewal, hope and anticipation

This Easter carries a special significance for our congregation as we not only celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ but also prepare to welcome a new shepherd to guide our flock. It is a time of renewal, hope, and anticipation.

Amidst the Easter festivities and the anticipation of Harvie and Sally’s arrival, we are also mindful of the conflicts that continue to ravage our world. What’s happening in Gaza, Yemen and Ukraine serve as stark reminders of the brokenness and turmoil that persist in our global community. As we gather in worship and fellowship, we cannot ignore the suffering and strife experienced in these regions and, sometimes, closer to home.

The Easter story is one of triumph over darkness, of hope emerging from despair. It is a story that resonates deeply with the human experience, offering solace and inspiration in times of uncertainty such as now. Just as Jesus emerged from the tomb, victorious over death, we are reminded that even in the darkest of times, there is light to be found.

Unique perspectives

As we prepare to welcome our new vicar, let us embody the spirit of Easter in our congregation. Let us extend a hand of welcome and support, embracing the opportunity for growth and renewal that comes with change. Harvie and Sally bring with them unique perspectives and gifts that we pray will enrich our community in profound ways. Let us open our hearts and minds to receive this new leadership with grace and enthusiasm.

At the same time, let us not forget our responsibility to bear witness to the suffering around the world. As followers of Christ, we are called to be agents of peace and reconciliation in a world torn apart by conflict. Let us pray for the people of the Middle East and Ukraine, for an end to violence everywhere and the restoration of peace.

As we journey through this Easter season, may we be reminded of the hope that lies within us – that hope of resurrection and of new life. May we hold fast to this as we navigate the challenges and uncertainties of the world around us. Ian
