Here are the October 2025 Bible readings, which we’ll be using in Christ Church Walmersley and St John with St Mark’s, Bury.
The readings
We’re still in ‘Ordinary Time’ and so in the Gospel readings, we’re still journeying to Jerusalem with Jesus (are we nearly there yet?) Jesus tells stories of mustard seeds and mulberry trees and of widows wearing out judges. In the Old Testament, we have a prophet on look-out duty and Jacob holding-on till day-break for a blessing.
In the New Testament, we move on to the second letter to Timothy. Here Timothy is told not to be ashamed of the Gospel and that all scripture is useful ‘for teaching, reproof, correction and training in righteousness’.
In amongst it all we have Harvest and Bible Sunday and we step away from the normal track of readings. For Harvest, we have Jesus referring to himself as the bread of life. And, on Bible Sunday, we go back to the beginning of Jesus’ ministry where he opens the scroll of Isaiah to declare that the verses he was reading were being fulfilled in the presence of his listeners.
- Oct 5th – Trinity 16: Habakkuk 1:1-4, 2:1-4; 2 Timothy 1:1-14; Luke 17:5-10;

If you don’t have access to a Bible, then please go to the Vanderbilt Divinity Library by following this link. It’s not always the same but it’s usually very close.
The October 2025 Bible readings also include this from Psalm 121…
Assurance of God’s help
A Song of Ascents.
I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come?
My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and for evermore.
