Here are the September 2025 Bible readings, which we’ll be using in Christ Church Walmersley and St John with St Mark’s, Bury.
The readings
In the Gospel readings, we’re still on the way to Jerusalem with Jesus… This month we have guidance from him on resource planning; looking for things which are lost; debt management – and taking notice of good advice whilst you can.
In the Old Testament, we’re advised to choose life (long before the monologue in Trainspotting); Moses turning down an offer from God; dodgy dealings with the poor – and warnings to the idle rich.
In the New Testament we move on to Paul’s letter to Philemon and then Timothy. Philemon is asked to take someone back into his household. With Timothy, Paul is open about his own shortcomings before asking for prayer for all those in power and advising on the dangers of financial and material riches.
- Sept 7th – Trinity 12: Deuteronomy 30:15-end; Philemon 1-21; Luke 14:25-33;
- Sept 14th – Trinity 13: Exodus 32:7-14; 1 Timothy 1:12-17; Luke 15:1-10;
- Sept 21st – Trinity 14: Amos 8:4-7; 1 Timothy 2:1-7; Luke 16:1-13;
- Sept 28th – Trinity 15: Amos 6:1a, 4-7; 1 Timothy 6:6-19; Luke 16:19-end;
If you don’t have access to a Bible, then please go to the Vanderbilt Divinity Library by following this link. It’s not always the same but it’s usually very close.
The September 2025 Bible readings also include this from Psalm 1…
The two ways
Happy are those
who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
or sit in the seat of scoffers;
but their delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law they meditate day and night.
They are like trees
planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
