Eagles Wing: Stay as friends

Eagles Wing: Stay as friends

Listen now

March 2020: It is with real sadness that we have decided that it isn’t possible to run our Eagles Wing sessions during this virus crisis. We have consulted with both of the Churches we use and it would not be advisable for us to continue.

This is a great loss to all our friends who come together for friendship and support every week, and more so for those who rely on the Red Cross Destitution money to survive.

But we can’t find a way to carry on, so but there will NOT be the usual Drop in with food and friendship.

Thank you all for supporting us for so long. We will be back as soon as the virus stops! That’s not likely to be until September.

Meanwhile, Eagles Wing members are in phone contact with each other. Volunteers are taking support round to people at home and are linking up with the partner agencies offering food parcels and other support. But we are not meeting face to face.

Sue Arnall

This is an update to our post in April 2019 on Eagles Wing since times and venues have now changed.

Special notice: the Monday morning English class is low on students and might close if they don’t get more beginners. So, if you’re interested, or know someone who would benefit, then please get in touch with Sue Arnall. Contact details at the bottom of the post.

Eagles Wing

Eagles Wing are a mutual support group for asylum seekers and local people in Bury, Lancashire. Their aim is to befriend newcomers to our town. Old friends can make sure that no one is lonely and isolated when they arrive here.

They have members who have come from all over the world, speaking many different languages. A warm welcome is guaranteed to all who join them.

Eagles Wing do this via ‘drop-ins’ and support groups operated by volunteers throughout the week. They meet in the United Reformed Church and Bury Baptist Church.

There’s lots going on! So, please take a look below for details of where and when they meet. There’s also a great summary of who they are and what’s important to them:

At St John and St Mark’s we’re very pleased to provide a home for the Solidarity Social Parties. These meet on the second Saturday of the month, with one or two breaks during the year.

Future dates are: December 14th, January 11th 2020, 8th February and 14th March.

Stay as friends

If you’d like to come along to the Socials or get involved in their work during the week then you’d be very welcome!
