June 2020 Bible readings

Listen now

Here are the June 2020 Bible readings. Please take the opportunity to read them and to reflect on what they might be saying to you.

We’ve put up some recent posts to help with the process of reflection. Please follow these links to see some pointers on Celtic Prayer and to look back at the Stations of the Resurrection.

It’s hard to say when we’ll be together again in person but in the meantime there are plenty of opportunities on-line to take part in worship. We’ve put some suggestions on this earlier post. But please don’t forget to phone those who are dear to you or talk to your neighbour.

The readings

June 2020 is the start of the Season after Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came down on the apostles and those with them. It includes Trinity Sunday where we think about the nature of God. And we have a series of readings from Matthew’s Gospel, where Jesus instructs his disciples on how they should behave when they go out and spread the word.

  • June 7th. Trinity Sunday. Isaiah 40:12-17, 27-31; 2 Corinthians 13:11-13; Matthew 28:16-20;
  • June 14th. 1st after Trinity. Exodus 19:2-8a; Romans 5:1-8; Matthew 9:35-10:8;
  • June 21st. 2nd after Trinity. Jeremiah 20:7-13; Romans 6: 1b-11; Matthew 10:24-39;
  • June 28th. 3rd after Trinity. Jeremiah 28:5-9; Romans 6:12-23; Matthew 10:40-42.

If you don’t have access to a Bible then please follow this link to the Vanderbilt Divinity Library. There’s the odd reading that doesn’t match but normally we’re pretty close!

Matthew 10:40-42

The last of our June 2020 Bible readings is about the importance of hospitality:

“Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
